UNLV Attacks UNC's Soft Perimeter Defense In Upset

Nov 27, 2011 12:22 PM

UNLV defeated North Carolina by a final score of 90-80 on Saturday. The Rebels penetrated through UNC's soft perimeter defense and then kicked the ball back out for three-pointers, going 13-for-32 on their attempts. They also outscored the Tar Heels by a 20-6 margin on second chance points.

“We have to contain the ball,” Kendall Marshall said, “and not put ourselves in positions where we’re so far into help [defense] that they get wide open shots.”

Chace Stanback had a career high 28 points for UNLV.

"I was surprised about a lot of things we didn't do,’’ UNC coach Roy Williams said. “We have to be stronger with the basketball. We have to guard the basketball better. We never did get the flow going. We have to be whole lot more patient."

UNC Recruit Isaiah Hicks Waiting On Eligibility Paperwork To Begin HS Season

Nov 23, 2011 4:49 PM

Isaiah Hicks, a commitment to North Carolina, is not practicing and cannot play with his high school team until eligibility issues are resolved.

Hicks is a top-15 prospect in the class of 2013 and transfered from Body of Christ Academy to Oxford Webb.

“He transferred into our school district this year. We are still awaiting the records from his previous school district to determine his eligibility,’’ said Stan Winborne, the public information officer for Granville County schools. “So right now, he is not playing. When we get the records, that could change.”

GM Prefers Jeremy Lamb Over Barnes

Nov 22, 2011 6:39 PM

Jeremy Lamb continues to emerge as one of the best prospects in the country.

Chad Ford has moved the Connecticut shooting guard to No. 10 on his Big Board.

One GM believes Lamb is the second best prospect of the 2012 NBA Draft class behind Anthony Davis.

"I think if you matchup Lamb with Harrison Barnes head-to-head, I think Lamb comes out ahead," said the GM. "He's a better athlete and he's just more aggressive."

Lamb’s usage has jumped from 23.25% as a freshman to 31.25% as a sophomore, but his TS% has also increased from 57.0% to 61.3%.

Barnes’ usage has increased slightly, going from 26.70% to 28.43%. His TS% has increased from 52.5% to 56.8% during the first three games of the 11-12 season.

Anthony Davis Separating From Rest Of 2012 Draft Class

Nov 22, 2011 6:32 PM

Anthony Davis continues to be atop Chad Ford's rankings for the 2012 NBA Draft.

Many NBA scouts feel there is a sizable gab between Davis and the whoever ends up being rated as the No. 2 player.

"Davis is the only person in this draft who I'm sure can change a franchise," one scout said. "I thought Andre Drummond may have also been ... but Davis is the only sure thing to me. He has such a unique game. He'll be a great pro."

Ford has Harrison Barnes ranked No. 2, followed by Drummond, Bradley Beal and Jared Sullinger.

Thorpe Believes Barnes' Best Fit Would Be With Raptors

Nov 16, 2011 5:44 PM

ESPN's David Thorpe examined several of the best prospects in college basketball and determined which team would be the best fit for them.

Thorpe believes Harrison Barnes of North Carolina would be an ideal fit for the Raptors.

"Imagine the impact Barnes could have in Toronto, probably the worst defensive team last season," writes Thorpe. "Not only would he immediately upgrade the Raps on that side of the ball, but his perimeter shooting partners well with their shooting guard, DeMar DeRozan, who can slash but does not shoot well from the perimeter."
